A chain loses lubrication from dust, rain and sand. The TrueBike covers enclose the chain completely, and since the bike is only used indoors, you don't need to lubricate your chain as often as with normal bikes. Still, checking once in a while is useful to ensure the TrueBike chain has sufficient lubrication.
Our advice:
- Every 500 kilometres, assess whether there is still enough lubricant on the chain.
- You can do this by looking diagonally into the chain case or through the small lubrication hole and assessing whether the chain looks dry.
- You can also wipe off the chain with a tissue to see if any oil gets on the tissue.
- If you feel the chain is dry, then it is helpful to use a small amount of chain lube squirt.
- Remove the cap from the TrueBike covers and apply a small amount of chain lube to the chain.
- Be careful, too much chain lube can get on the electronics and damage them!
- Replace the cap and you are good to go!
If your TrueBike does not have a cap, you can hold the bottle between the bottom bracket and the covers, where you can see the chain running. This is a little trickier, but works just as well.
